It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Connie Lee of Falun at the age of 57 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Trev Lee; mother, Ella Schulz; brother, Morley (Lynn) Schulz; extended family, Marvin (Manuela) Sommerfeld, Melvin (Beate) Sommerfeld, Marlene(Craig) Phillips, Annette(Harry) Hennig; sister-in-law, Brenda (Jerry) Blanchard; brother-in-law, Brent(Wendy) Lee; four beloved God-children along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Connie was predeceased by her father, Herb Schulz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Helen Lee. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Chapel, Wetaskiwin.

Rathwell, Vernon Wesley

Vernon passed away at Bentley, Alberta on April 19, 2013 at the age of 86.
He is survived by his children, Velma Rathwell of Wetaskiwin, Robert (Leona) Rathwell of Stettler, Wilma Callihoo of Edmonton, Mary (Jamie) Hazzard of Leduc County, Ken (Darla) Rathwell of Hay Lakes; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; siblings, Irene, Ken (Eileen), Murray (Gail) and Jeanne (Sam); sister-in-laws, Fern, Betty and Margaret as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Betty (nee: Kinley); siblings, Harold and Clifford; son-in-law, Ralph.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Millet Legion Branch # 229 - 5156 50 Avenue.

Pawlick, Tyler John Lloyd

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tyler Pawlick of Thorsby, AB, on Sunday, August 25, 2013. Tyler was born on January 4, 1985 in Edmonton, Alberta. Ty was raised in Thorsby on his parent’s dairy/grain farm, where he resided until his passing. Ty was a big man with an even bigger heart and smile. Tyler went to elementary school in Thorsby, and then finished high school in Leduc. After school, Ty started his work in the oilfield. He worked for Trinidad for a few years and was currently employed with Nabors Drilling, working outside of Fort St. John, BC. Ty’s true calling was not only working in the oil patch, he was a farmer, true to heart. He made time to farm. You could always find him out in the field working through the night. He was always the guy that was there to do the dirty work. You could always find him out “crop checking” with his buddy, his dad.
Tyler is survived by his parents, Laurence Pawlick, of Thorsby, Shelley Pawlick, of Edmonton, his brother Jordan Pawlick, , his sister Keiley Burnett and her husband Preston Burnett, all of Thorsby, his baba, Anna Pawlick, of Leduc, his Grandma Lynn Dalke or Pincher Creek, AB and his beloved dog Toby. Ty is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many friends. Tyler was predeceased by his grandfathers, John Pawlick, Marvin Dalke, David Thompson, his grandmother Madeline Thompson, and his cousin Lindsay Chow. Tyler will forever be remembered in everyone’s hearts as the big guy who loved kids and animals. Rest in Peace.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Calmar, Alberta. Very Reverend Sergey Kipriyanovich officiating.
Walden Smith

Peacefully, and surrounded by his family, Walden Smith of Wetaskiwin passed away on September 2, 2013 at the age of 100 years.
Walden is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Florence; brother, Art; children, Carole Ferri of St. Albert, Douglas (Vicki) of Winfield and Vance (Darlene) of Okotoks; grandchildren, Teresa-Gayle (Chris), Anita (Pete), Gina (Larry), Gregory (Diane), Tracy (Barry), Toren (Tomoko) and Michael (Susan) as well as numerous great-grandchildren and many friends.

On November 11, 2013 Oscar Piel passed away at the age of 91 years.
Oscar is lovingly remembered by his children, Brian (Marie Lantz) Piel, Judy Anderson, Kevin Piel; and their mother, Bertha Wesley; grandchildren, Christopher Anderson and Mark Hilliman; sisters, Elsie Eklund and Erna Jackson; sister-in-law, Esther Piel; three nieces, three nephews and many friends.
Oscar was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Ottilia; brothers, John and Bert Piel and brother-in-law, Bill Jackson.
Funeral service will be held at Baker Funeral Chapel, 5302-50 Avenue, Wetaskiwin on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Wetaskiwin (Old) Cemetery.

MINCHAU, Hattie
Peacefully on November 14, 2013 Mrs. Hattie Minchau of Wetaskiwin, AB passed away at the age of 92 years.
Hattie leaves to cherish her memory, with her sons: Reg (Cathy), Allan (Jean), and her daughter-in-law Kathy (Ray) Madu. 7 grandchildren; Ed Minchau, Wendy (Shaune) Beveridge, Heidi (Vince) Bowen, Ryan (Chelsea) Minchau, Jennifer (Stephan) Doucet, Lacey (Brian) Gillan and Allana Minchau; as well as 8 great grandchildren.
Hattie was predeceased by her husband Reuben and son Melvin.
Hattie’s Funeral Service was held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Wetaskiwin on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 and she was layed to rest in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Pipestone, AB.

Michael Ambrose MacDonald

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael MacDonald announce his passing on Sunday, November 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 70 years. Michael fought a long battle with cancer.
Michael was born in Edmonton, Alberta on October 29th. 1943 to Dan and Gertrude MacDonald. He was the youngest of 8 children. He lived on the farm 11 miles west of Millet, Alberta. He attended Pipestone School riding on Sam Steinke's bus. He went off to Edmonton and became a Truck Driver, first driving for Sam Morrow, then onto bigger trips taking him across Canada and the United States. Mike drove truck for nearly 50 years. Michael leaves to mourn his loving children: Michael (Mack) and Joanne, Danny, Tammy and Brian, John and Tamara, Robert and Louisa, Peggy Ann and Greg and Gail, mother of his children. Twenty three grand kids and eleven great grand kids.
He leaves to mourn his brothers and sisters: John and Rita MacDonald, Donald and Eileen MacDonald, Noreen MacDonald, Marilyn Snedden and Dick Rehaume, Pat and Don Moffitt and Peggy Wesley. Michael also leaves to mourn many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins in Alberta, Sask. BC, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana.
Michael is pre-deceased by his parents: Gertrude and Dan, brother Dennis, brother in law Peter Snedden, sister-in-law Marj. MacDonald and son Bradley.
Michael will be missed by everyone his life touched and was very proud of his Scottish (Nova Scotia) heritage.

We sadly announce the passing of Veona Hughes, of Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Veona passed away peacefully on November 21, 2013, at the age of 53 yrs.

LEE, Robert Allan (Uncle Bob)
Robert Allan Lee (Uncle Bob) of Kamloops, B.C. passed away January 10, 2014 at Overlander Extended Care. He is predeased by his parents Kenneth and Mrytle Lee, also nephews Dirk and Les Lee. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Bob was very close to his brother Grant (Pat) Lee and Grant's children; DeeDee (Les) Betteridge, Charlotte (Frank) Curtis, Ron (Suzanne) Lee, Wally (Bernadette) Lee & Lawrence (Rhonda) Lee. Uncle Bob was a jack of all trades with quick wit and trade mark sayings of Seagull and Fair.
Bob's best friend, Chopper his bulldog, was always close at his side while Bob lived in Millet.

GITZEL, Velma

Velma Gitzel, born December 7, 1924 passed away peacefully on January 18, 2014 at the age of 89 years at the Leduc Hospital.
Velma is survived by her son Larry (partner Peggy); daughter in law Jeanne Gitzel of Brandon, MB; two grandchildren, Nancy Danyliuk (Gordon Lotsberg) of Glendon and Dean (Pam) Gitzel; four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Shayla Danyliuk and Josh and Meagan Gitzel; one sister Vera Gunsch of Devon; brother in law David Gitzel of Leduc and sisters in law Laura Sommers of Leduc and Hady Smith of Thorsby, as well numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Stephen, son Stanley, daughter Phyllis Smith and numerous other relatives.
Funeral Service was held on Thursday January 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Thorsby with the interment following at the church cemetery.

Doreen will be forever loved and missed by her husband, Charlie of 62 years. Loved and adored by her three sons, Bryan, David (Sandee) and Barry (Linda); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; As well as numerous family and friends.

PURSCHKE, Jane Margaret

It is with sadness that the family of Jane Purschke announces her sudden passing on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her son, Randy (Mary-Ellen); daughter, Jacquie (Rob). She will be lovingly remembered by her four granddaughters, Amy, Allie, Emily and Hannah, who brought so much joy and happiness to her life. She also leaves her two dear brothers, Jack of Calgary and David of Chilliwack; Allie`s fiancee, Kyle; as well as the large extended Maclagan family of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Dean.
Jane was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on January 3, 1931 to her parents, Lyle & Dora Maclagan. After a childhood in Coutts and Calgary, with her brothers, Dean, Jack and Dave, Jane moved to Edmonton as a teenager. There she started her career and raised two children, surrounded by her family.
In 1976, Jane fulfilled a life-long dream and moved to the country near Millet. There she gardened, began a catering business, worked at the local paper and became a fond member of the community. She was a key fixture at the Wetaskiwin arena for many years, ensuring children and adults alike were well fed and `kept in line.` Her `Jane` burgers were appreciated by many.
In her retirement, Jane moved to Jacquie`s farm where she happily contributed to the garden, the cooking and ensuring that all the animals were thoroughly spoiled. She spent many happy times and had lots of good laughs in the midst of good friends and family at the farm.
A celebration of life took place February 1, 2014 in the basement of the Memorial Arts Centre (Scarlet & Gold Room).

Mullen, (Hegge) Evelyn Agnes

Evelyn passed away peacefully at Wetaskiwin, Alberta on February 14, 2014 at the age of 96.
She is survived by her loving children, Elnora Hibbert, Al (Mary) Hegge, Ed (Barb) Hegge, Joanne (Bob) Maynard; step-children, Eddie (Pauline) Mullen, Sister Paula Marilynn; step daughter-in-law, Lynne Mullen; sister, Irma Hope; step-sisters, Irene Davies and Helen (Jim) Chaisson; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her first husband, Anton Hegge; second husband, James R. Mullen; step-son, Phillip John (PJ) Mullen; grandson, Matthew Mullen.

On February 19, 2014, Daniel ‘Danny’ Cameron of Millet, Alberta passed away at the age of 51 years.
Danny is survived by his loving family; wife of 27 years, Linda; children, Craig (Miriam), Ryan, Janelle (fiancé, Tucker) and Julie; father, Reid Cameron; sisters, Christine (Keith) Kashuba, Jeannie Dorland (Doug) and Grace (Brad) Baker as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members and many friends.
Danny was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy.

Johnson, Ingrid

Ingrid entered into rest at the age of 69 years on February 21, 2014. She was born on May 14, 1944 in Czechoslovakia.
In 1957, Ingrid joined her mother in Ogema, Saskatchewan where she met Merlin, the love of her life. Ingrid and Merlin were married in 1960, and they had four daughters; Cindy, Barbara, Terry and Suzanne. They spent many years running the family farm with Merlin`s twin brother, Mervin and her best friend, Sharon. In 1977, they moved to Wetaskiwin where Janice became an instant daughter. Ingrid nursed for over two decades until the battle with her health forced her into retirement. In 1997, Merlin and Ingrid moved to the acreage near Wetaskiwin where she enjoyed her flowers, her garden and all of her family.
Ingrid is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Merlin; daughters, Cindy (Stan) Howse, Barbara (Rob) Fontaine, Terry Mildenberger, Suzanne (Craig) Beaubien, Janice Drader; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anni & Neil.
All of this from one very strong, outspoken German girl.
A memorial service was held on February 28, 2014 at Baker Funeral Chapel.

It is with sadness we announce that Wayne Van Geerenstein of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, passed away at the age of 72 years. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Evelyn; son, Rene Van Geerenstein of Wetaskiwin, Alberta; daughter, Wilma (Bill) Bell of Tomahawk, Alberta; grandchildren, Breanne Van Geerenstein Gabrielle Van Geerenstein, Arianna Van Geerenstein, Madeline Van Geerenstein, Crawford Bell and Wilson Bell; sisters, Gre, Janny, Reina, and Weiny; sister-in-law, Aartje; brothers-in-law, Gijs (Truus), Jaap (Petra), Aart; special friends, Nelly Snellen, Bep and Jan Roelofsen, Leilani and Benni Sonnenberg and family as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Dr. Sherrill Jean Brown (nee Demeter), Ph.D.Ed.

It is with great sadness that the family announces her passing following a valiant two-year battle against cancer. Sherrill leaves to mourn her loving husband Robert (Bob) of 44 years; son Christopher and his fiancée Rhonda Schiewe; son-in-law Paul Galas; grandchildren Miroslav Brown, Spencer Galas and Kylie Galas (Leduc and Area); mother Eileen Demeter; sister Debra Morrison and brother Peter Demeter (Bowmanville, ON); many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Robyn Galas and her father William Demeter.
Sherrill was a born teacher and child advocate. During the 70s, she taught preschool and kindergarten programs in Leduc and Millet. She advanced her teaching career as a Tenured Professor at Grant MacEwan University in the Early Childhood Program. She was an active member of both the Alberta and Canadian Child Care Federations. Sherrill was an active member of the Leduc Drama Society, directing and acting in many productions, particularly musicals.
Sherrill loved to spend time at her cottage at Crystal Sands, Mara Lake, BC and was able to spend four beautiful months this past summer at the cottage.
As a valued member of St. David’s United Church in Leduc, she will be greatly missed for her voice in the choir, and her active work with the congregation.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jana Holden and her staff at the Griffiths Clinic; Dr. Venner and staff at the Cross Cancer Institute; and all the nurses and staff of the 2nd Floor units at the Leduc General Hospital and Homecare for all their caring support these past two years. We especially want to thank Anna from WeCare.
Cremation has taken place. A family and congregational family service of prayer will be held at St. David’s United Church, 4614 – 48 Street, Leduc, AB on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Blaine Gregg officiating.
A Celebration of Sherrill’s Life for all family, friends and colleagues will take place at MacLab Centre for the Performing Arts, 4308 – 50 Street, Leduc, AB on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with reception to follow.

With sadness, we announce that on March 7, 2014, Velma Louise Jevne of Wetaskiwin, AB, passed away at the age of 90 years. Velma is survived by her children, Clarence (Glenda) of Wetaskiwin, Bob (Wendy) of Wetaskiwin, and Bonnie (Rob) Scott of Millet; six grandchildren, Martin Jevne, Patrick (Crystal) Jevne, Michael (Corrine) Jevne, David (Ashley) Jevne, Robyn Scott and Stephen Scott; seven great-grandchildren, Connor, Jordy, Jayda, Elizabeth, Mackenzie, Carsyn, and Crosby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Velma was predeceased by her husband, Freeman; parents, Arvid and Eda Lundblad; sisters, Edith Busch, Ruth Benson, and Evelyn Lundblad; as well as her brothers, Harvey and Reuben.
